Its sad to inform but got to inform to our readers that Geocites is no more available to us. Yes, its dead and buried. Geocites, the iconic symbol of Internet had been shut down yesterday . These websites can no longer access on the web. Its just a thing of past. Lets pray for Geocites. Rest In Peace.
Geocites, was once viewed by millions of netizens in fact it was third most visited website in 90’s. What made Geocites special to us is it offered to build a website for free. The success of Geocites caught the eye of Yahoo in 1999 and eventually acquired the site for $3.57bn.
But the popularity of Geocites declined sharply in early 2000 which was partly due to web 2.0. Adding to the woes, the emergence of social networks led to the complete downfall of these websites. Ironically, the huge success of Geocites paved way to raise social networks like my space and CMS like Blogger and wordpress.
The Internet Archive, a nonprofit founded to build an Internet library and archive the public Web, was working to archive as many GeoCities web sites as possible till yesterday.

Few expected Microsoft would give a double blow to Google by bagging two separate non exclusive deals with Twitter and Facebook to integrate their real-time feed of status updates into Bing search results.
In an effort to outperform Google in real time search competition, Microsoft may pay huge money to Twitter and Facebook also include ad revenue sharing proposal just what it did with Yahoo. Both Google and Microsoft were trying hard to woo Twitter for accessing data in real time from past two weeks.
Bing, search engine of Microsoft said, “We’re glad you asked that. Because today at Web 2.0 we announced t hat working with those clever birds over at Twitter, we now have access to the entire public Twitter feed and have a beta of Bing Twitter search for you to play with (in the US, for now). Try it out. The Bing and Twitter teams want to know what you think.”
This is what Bing said on Twitter, “One of the most interesting things going on today on the Internet is the notion of the real time web. The idea of accessing data in real time has been an elusive goal in the world of search.”
In near future visitors may expect a new revamped search interface from Bing as it got to show feeds and status updates of these two social networking sites.
