For the last few weeks, I am being asked about recent Google updates (from junior SEO team) also how effective are updates on search engine ranking positions. Our senior SEO team extensively researched from past 20 days and here I am with a post.
As every one know the world is ever changing with new trends, issues and technologies so do Google with new algorithms, updates and features. For those who are unaware of these updates, here you may find interesting.
A few weeks back Google has come up with Vince change (better to call as brand update), implementation of Orion technology, long snippets, and one line sitelinks.
Let us start with Brand update.
Mattcuts calls this algorithm as a ‘Vince’s change’ and also ’simple change’. This is one of the most unpopular algorithm from Google in recent times (this is my personal thought). From now onwards big brands are going to get an extra edge over others in SERP for small number of queries.
Though this update wont affect long – tail queries and applicable only to small number of queries, still the very foundation of Google algorithm – link building and so called “ fresh content”, “Unique content”, “frequent updates” got shaken.
So what is in it for SEO?
This algorithm is not such a worrisome factor. In fact not much has changed.
Implementing Orion technology to show quality SERP.
A straight question to Google – what to do with Orion technology?
Orion has ability not only in finding relevant content to your keyword but also it fetches related topics and will be displayed immediately in same page. It is this Orion was acquired by Google in 2006.
Let me give straight answer to the above question. Google is no more confined to the ability in understanding the synonyms of keyword; more over it can better understand associations and concepts related to your search.
So what is it for SEO?
Death to Keyword density. Come up with content, more content…. more
Longer Snippets for better search experience.
Google increased length of snippets to 3 lines and some times even 4 lines for search queries that are more than three words and long tail keyword search queries. These snippets give clear picture whether to click on blue colored link or to move further to get desired description of the website.
One line sitelink:
Google came up with one line sitelink. We have had no up gradation from site link team in past. One line sitelinks pulls sub page of your website. This feature helps visitors to decide to enter particular page of the website. One line site links is being displayed on the basis of query. It is interesting to see how Google upgrades this feature. Google may try to change one line sitelinks of a website according to search queries in near future.
So what is it for SEO?
Page Segmentation, Website architecture and Content are important.

These three updates clearly affect your click through rate. If we think usability perspective then we can easily say that Google wants to give a better search experience.
